SARANGI

The sarangi is a classical bow instrument made of wood, 65 to 70 centimeters in height, with about three dozen strings of gut, steel and brass. It is played with a horsehair bow held in the right hand. The sarangi is one of the most difficult instruments to play since the soft parts of the fingers beneath the nails of the left hand are used to press the strings. The sound produce by the sarangi is closest to the human voice and is therefore a preferred accompanying instrument for vocalist but also a highly acclaimed solo instrument.
